Drop Coffee - award-winning specialty coffee in Södermalm

Joanna Alm, Managing Director of Drop Coffee, has swept up every award the coffee world has to offer. Today, she is a board member of the Specialty Coffee Association, which is dedicated to ensuring quality, sustainability and fair trade in coffee.

Back in 2009, she co-founded Drop Coffee with the simple idea to serve really good coffee.

The company has since then grown to a successful roastery of organic, fair-trade beans.

The tiny spot by Mariatorget Park has remained what it was  from the beginning - a cosy neighbourhood café where we can get really good coffee.

We love strolling the cobbled Monteliusvägen path, letting the wind clear our minds as we take in one of Stockholm’s finest views.

Just down the hill, tucked around the corner from Mariatorget Park, is Drop Coffee.

The low-key little café just happens to serve some of the capital’s finest coffee.

In a relaxed atmosphere, friends sit together over cappuccino and cinnamon buns for a chat. A few people have filter coffee pots next to their laptops. Neighbours from the area drop in – and so do we, visitors looking forward to a Swedish fika.

The sweet and savoury pastries come from Drop’s Södermalm neighbour, Svedjan Bageri, a bakery we wholeheartedly recommend.

Nearly everything served at Drop is locally sourced, fairly traded and, wherever possible, organic.

The espresso and filter coffee are all single-origin – meaning each one comes from a single farm, co-op or growing region and is not blended with other varieties.

It’s what allows Drop to showcase the unique flavour profile of each coffee, much like a good wine.

Of course, you can buy the beans to take home and the equipment to brew them too - which we love.

But nothing quite beats enjoying it right here, in the warm Scandinavian surroundings of Wollmar Yxkullsgatan 10.
