SWEETS Hotel - Living by the Water in Amsterdam’s Bridge Houses

A small red brick building of the Sweets Hotel in Amsterdam stands on Amsteldijk, with two people talking in front with a bicycle.

in short...

  • stay overnight in former bridge keeper's cottages

  • small architectural gems right on the waterfront

  • what we particularly love – the whole city is our lobbyFor lovers of Dutch architecture, especially Amsterdam’s iconic bridges, SWEETS Hotel offers a truly unique experience.

Scattered throughout the city, these suites are nestled in charming former bridge houses that have been lovingly restored with meticulous attention to detail.

Each of these small houses has been expertly redesigned and outfitted for maximum comfort, blending skilled design with perfect space utilization.

A window at the Sweets Hotel in Amsterdam overlooks a tree-lined street, with a red desk in front holding a booklet and papers.

Staying in one of these gems is a magical way to discover Amsterdam from an unparalleled local perspective.

In Amsterdam, people ride their bicycles as naturally and effortlessly as we walk, no matter the weather.

This dynamic scene is an inseparable part of the city’s charm.

Another quintessential movement that comes to mind when thinking of Amsterdam unfolds on its waterways.

View through an open window of Amsterdam’s Nieuwe Amstelbrug in daylight, with calm water and the historic bridge railings clearly visible.

The extensive network of canals, with their houseboats, barges, and boats, creates a picturesque and bustling hidden picture puzzle.

A key element of this enchanting scene is the small bridge houses, once manned by bridge keepers.

With the centralization of bridge operations, these quaint old houses stood empty and have now, to our delight, been transformed into a unique hotel.

Loft bed with white pillows and duvet on light wooden platform, built-in shelves, books, lamp and window front with wooden steps.

SWEETS Hotel has distributed its "rooms" across various bridges in Amsterdam.

If you cherish individuality in your accommodation and don’t mind using the entire city as your breakfast room, lounge or spa, this place is perfect for you.

Admittedly, staying amidst the waterways can be a bit noisy at times, but earplugs are thoughtfully provided and the hotel’s website indicates the expected noise levels for each house.

View through a window of Amsterdam's Nieuwe Amstelbrug at night, with the bridge illuminated and lights reflecting on the dark water.

We were thoroughly enchanted by our stay at the Nieuwe Amstelbrug house and are eager to experience another bridge house on our next visit.
