The Seafood Bar - a Paradise for fish and shellfish

Indulging in fresh fish and seafood can be a delightful luxury.

When, as in this case, the highest standards of sustainability are also prioritized, the enjoyment becomes even more profound.

For Amsterdam locals, The Seafood Bar, which boasts three locations throughout the city, is likely no secret.

It's akin to recommending Dallmayr to a Münchner or Das Schwarze Kamel to a Viennese.

However, if you love the freshest seafood, prioritize sustainable fishing and appreciate bright spaces that evoke the charm of a bustling fish market, this is the place for you.

This little seafood chain has remained a family affair, which, instantly makes it even more likable in our book.

For nearly thirty years, Fons De Visscher worked as a fishmonger in Helmond, a town in the Netherlands. Then, in 2012, he opened his first restaurant, The Seafood Bar on Van Baerlestraat, just around the corner from Vondelpark in Amsterdam.

These days, he runs the business together with his daughter and son, not only with two more locations in Amsterdam, but also one in Utrecht and another in London’s Soho.

Our favorite is the branch on Spui, with its cheerful, bustling vibe - it always puts us in a good mood.

But of course, you’re more than welcome to find your own favorite and to taste your way through their glorious selection of fresh fish and seafood.
