Alexa von Harder - Pâtisserie in pastel tones

A round wooden table at Café Alexa von Herder in Munich displays avocado toast with fried eggs and powdered sugar pancakes with berries and cream, next to water and ceramic cups.

A bit like in London - where tidy houses line quiet neighborhoods around well-kept little parks and where a tiny cafés display pastel-colored cupcakes in flower-framed windows - that’s the feeling at Alexa von Harder.

It’s no surprise, as Alexa spent her passionate years training as a confectioner and patissier at Peggy Porschen in the British capital.

Three scones in a black basket with grey napkins on a wooden table, coffee cup and brown sugar container blurred in the background.

From there, she brought back just the right amount of "snugness" to keep us coming back to her romantic café.

However, Ismaningerstraße in Munich is less charming than Victoria Grove in South Kensington.

This makes it all the more remarkable what a magical place Alexa has created here with her husband Kevin.

At Café Alexa von Herder in Munich, a table is set with pancakes, a smoothie bowl, coffee, and berries. In the background are the counter, pastries, and dried flowers.

We love the little café, where the fluffy pancakes for breakfast are just as delicious as the club sandwich at lunchtime or the scones for cream tea.

A club sandwich with egg, ham, lettuce and bacon sits on veggie chips on a light plate, with a white cup and a glass of water behind it on a marble table.

If you can’t find room for one of the artful pastries, you should definitely take at least one or two home.

In the pretty box in which they are carefully packed, they survive the transport without any problem.

Three plates on light marble: club sandwich with veggie chips, two fried eggs on toast, and pancakes with berry compote, whipped cream and fresh berries.

For those who can't make it to Haidhausen, Alexa runs another small Café in the Fünf Höfe in Theatinerstraße.

By pre-order, she offers large cakes that look especially stunning.

Next door on Ismaningerstraße, she also holds  courses - naturally in beautifully decorated rooms - for those who want to practice the art of patisserie themselves.
