Munich’s best Bakery

“Tuesday to Saturday, from 8 a.m. until the last loaf” - the opening hours of the two Julius Brantner bakeries are to be taken quite literally.

The delicious bread is always freshly baked, using traditional craftsmanship and the finest organic ingredients.

In line with the principles of mindfulness and sustainability, nothing goes to waste.

The selection is intentionally kept small, but the quality is simply outstanding.

So, it’s well worth arriving early.

And for those who are still a bit sleepy, you can grab an excellent coffee in a charming Brantner cup to go.

“The most valuable ingredient we use generously is time.”

This is the guiding philosophy at Julius Brantner.

The natural sourdoughs for the breads are allowed to ferment for 24 to 48 hours, which makes all the difference in flavor and shelf life.

Although, we must admit, we’ve never tested the shelf life of the baked goods because we devour them far too quickly!

Our favorite is the Bavarian light rye bread with fermented apple pieces and caramelized rye grains.

Honestly, it doesn’t even need the butter we love to spread on it, because it’s so juicy and flavorful on its own.

Dark, coarse-textured bread is sliced on a wooden board next to a piece of butter with an animal-shaped imprint.

You can buy our favorite bread every day, along with the crispy signature rye loaf, a mixed bread seasoned with fennel, anise, coriander, and caraway, as well as Krusti and hand-formed rolls.

On Tuesdays, there’s also a wonderfully fluffy potato-spelt bread.

Wednesdays bring the delight of a buttery cinnamon cardamom bun.

And on Fridays or Saturdays, we eagerly await the croissants, whose more than 50 delicate layers reveal the fresh hay milk and Isigny butter used to make them.

Two golden-brown cinnamon rolls with visible filling sit in an open cardboard box on dark fabric.

On the Julius Brantner website, all products are described in detail, along with a handy list of which days they are available.

What we appreciate most about the small, curated selection is the lesson in value and respect that it teaches us.

Of course, passionate baker Brantner gives his products the proper stage as well.

In the bright spaces with open baking areas, the baked goods are displayed like little treasures on beechwood boards atop a natural-colored cast stone counter.

Brass details and the beautiful La Marzocco coffee machine complete the perfect picture. Every visit to this bakery is a complete joy for us.
