Krümel Cookies & Crumbs – a Cookie Monster’s Paradise
„Krümel“ means Crumbs in German - and blue like the Cookie Monster itself („Krümel-Monster“ in Germany), the awning above the matching bench outside this Södermalm bakery shines from afar.
And even inside, the vibrant blue interior feels like a sweet tribute to everyone’s favourite crumb-loving Muppet.
Here, hand-rolled cookies are baked to perfection and served with coffee, tea, matcha – or, naturally, just a cold glass of Swedish milk.
Only the best ingredients make it into the dough: Swedish flour, eggs and butter, real vanilla, French Xoco chocolate from the finest Central American cocoa beans and flaky Maldon sea salt from England.
Crispy on the outside and gooey in the centre, these cookies are dangerously good.
And if you’ve ever thought of cookies as boring, this is the place that will make you change your mind.
For the Cookie Monster, the team at Sesame Street spent ages fine-tuning a recipe that wouldn’t be too thick or too crumbly – just right for dramatic cookie destruction.
They had to be soft, but not sticky - think of all that blue fluff full of crumbs.
And the crunch sound had to be spot on.
Now imagine the effort it takes at Krümel to get the flavour and texture perfect – especially with new seasonal creations appearing all year round.
In autumn, that might mean apple-vanilla or roasted pecan with maple syrup.
In summer it’s earl grey, peach and raspberry or at Christmas pepper, rum and mandarin.
But there are also the timeless favourites like „The Classic Crump“ with dark chocolate and sea salt or „Triple Choc Crumb“ with white, milk and dark chocolate.
Why haven’t we been giving cookies more credit?!?
Founder Katja puts it perfectly:
„For me cookies are the best in-between snack, a perfectly sized dessert and great Fika (coffee break) company.
A cookie has the right size and shape to be shared with a friend, and at the same time it’s also fine if you eat it alone.
They’re delicious with a crispy surface and a gooey middle, but also if they’re all buttery and a bit thicker.
Cookies can be „simple” with just chocolate chips, but I love to take them a level higher.”
In addition to her tiny shop in Södermalm, Katja’s cookies are also sold in two shops in Östermalm.
They do ship across Sweden in lovely cardboard boxes, but not abroad.
So really, there’s only one thing for us to do - come back here as often as we can.
