Acne Studios - Scandinavian fashion with an artsy design

Street view of the Acne Studios shop in Stockholm with symmetrical storefront, central entrance, and a glimpse of minimally staged fashion inside.

Unconventional, artistic and quirky, yet minimalist, functional and superbly crafted - that's the fashion of Acne Studios.

Clean, graphic looks sit alongside Nordic folkloristic hippie styles or loud punk creations.

A black Acne Studios handbag with short handle held in front of a light pleated skirt, captured in close-up against a grey background.

We particularly love the fabulous bag designs, which make all others pale in comparison.

But the casual oversized pants, cozy knitwear and cool hoodies are also absolutely fantastic.

And in the brand's hometown, Stockholm, you can get all of this at a much lower price than in the rest of the world.

Outside Acne Archive in Stockholm, a woman in sunglasses steps onto the pavement holding a paper bag, with store lettering and reflected buildings behind her.

And if that still isn’t enough, the Acne Archive on Torsgatan makes for the perfect treasure hunt. There’s usually something waiting to be discovered - a piece that stretched the budget last season or a one-off gem we somehow overlooked the first time around.

Jonny Johansson founded the ACNE project in 1996 with friends, as a creative agency that combined digital web design and graphic design, advertising, film production, art direction and fashion design.

Originally standing for "Associated Computer Nerd Enterprises," the acronym was reinterpreted as "Ambition to Create Novel Expressions" when the fashion line Acne Studios became independent.

“Experimentation is what I love about designing something new. It's like an artist's studio or a band's rehearsal room." says Jonny Johansson, perfectly describing the style of Acne Studios - always new, always surprising, always artistic.

A counter made of roughly hewn natural stone with two tablets stands in a store with beige marble flooring; a colourful artwork behind glass hangs on the wall.

We love coming back to the light-filled Norrmalmstorg store. It always feels like stepping into a carefully curated art space - a place that feels as inspiring as the pieces inside.
