When writing about Stockholm, we often highlight the beautiful long summer days.

Finally, here’s one of our favorite tips for Swedish winter days: Sibyllans!

Especially when Sibyllegatan in Östermalm is adorned with fairy lights during the Christmas season and a festive magic envelops Stockholm, the windows of this small tea shop glow brightly and invitingly.

Vividly colored tea and coffee tins with elegant gold lettering line the dark wooden shelves. And the shop exudes a cozy warmth, surpassed only by the fragrant cup of tea we'll brew at home.

Coffee importer Hilmer Hansson founded Sibyllans in 1916 with his two brothers, Sixten and Wilhelm.

Two framed photos at Sibyllans Coffee and Tea House in Stockholm show the Hansson brothers as founders and recent portraits wearing aprons of the traditional shop.

At Sibyllegatan 35, two steps lead up into the fragrant little shop tucked behind a beautifully preserved sandstone facade.

Since 1918, carefully selected coffee varieties have been sold here - in rooms that have remained almost unchanged to this day.

We always take home the cardamom coffee beans. When we’re back, they taste like Scandinavia and remind us, with every sip, of Stockholm days.

Freshly roasted coffee beans of various types such as Java, Ethiopia and Cuba are displayed in glass containers at Sibyllans Coffee House in Stockholm.

When coffee was rationed in Sweden during World War II, the brothers decided to add teas to their assortment.

What a good decision that was!

We love not only the signature Earl Grey tea, "Sir Williams," named after Wilhelm Hansson, but also the cinnamon-infused "Vintersaga" and the creamy Rooibos Rhubarb Vanilla.

At the counter of Sibyllans Coffee House in Stockholm, black tea tins and stacked packages of freshly roasted coffee beans stand beside glass containers with beans.

One of the most delightful aspects is gradually lining up the pretty tins on our own kitchen shelves.

And don’t be shy! It’s always worth asking the friendly team for recommendations or specials. You might just uncover a few hidden gems you hadn’t even noticed before.
