Andersen & Maillard - Chocolate Scent & Roasted Coffee

In the display at Andersen & Maillard Copenhagen, freshly baked cardamom buns, pistachio cakes with raspberry compote and croissants are arranged side by side.

Here, a bit of Noma’s magic wafts through the air, mingling with the aroma of coffee and buttery, chocolatey pastries.

Milton Abel, a pastry chef from Noma, teamed up with coffee expert Hans Kristian Andersen to open the wonderful bakery and coffee roastery, Andersen & Maillard.

At Andersen & Maillard in Copenhagen, a large espresso machine stands on the counter, with loaves of bread stacked on shelves behind and daylight streaming through glass doors.

In 2018, the duo started their venture at Nørrebrogade 62. Amidst large burlap sacks of coffee beans and a selection of stylish barista equipment, there are cozy seating areas.

In the storage area of Andersen & Maillard in Copenhagen, jute sacks filled with coffee beans rest on trolleys, with a large silver coffee roasting machine in the background.

At the café in Nordhavn, we can watch the pastry chefs at work from our tables in bright, spacious rooms.

The small downtown coffee shop is designed for takeout, unless the weather allows sitting outside on the streetfront of the cafe.

The facade of Andersen & Maillard in Copenhagen features a modern grey front with glass windows and entrance doors, while several people are standing outside on the sidewalk.

However, on a sunny day, it’s even nicer to take the delicious treats to the nearby Kongens Have and enjoy them in the shade of old trees.

A chocolate knot pastry and a cinnamon roll from Andersen & Maillard rest on white paper, clearly visible in a close-up shot.

All three locations share a heavenly selection of glazed croissants filled with pistachio cream or melting dark chocolate, cannelés, cakes…just one look, and we can tell - these pastries are the work of years spent in top-tier patisserie kitchens.

For something savoury there are crispy rolls with whipped butter and hearty toppings.

And everything is best enjoyed with a cup of freshly house-roasted coffee.

Of course, what else all Andersen & Maillard bakeries have in common is that they are must-visits whenever we are in Copenhagen.
