in short…

  • Chiara Barlas Café in a historic pharmacy

  • a most beautiful location between Nyboders and Frederiksstaden

  • delicious breakfast (the pistachio granola is a hit) and fabulous snacks - homemade from local organic ingredients

Chiara Barla came from Liguria in Italy to Copenhagen to delve into the excitement surrounding the new Scandinavian cuisine spearheaded by René Redzepi and his restaurant Noma.

Now rooted in the Danish capital herself, she runs Apotek 57, a beautiful café that meets all the high standards of Copenhagen's culinary scene.

The spaces of the old St. Paul’s Apothecary from 1878, shared with the Frama Studio Store, are incredibly photogenic.

The team, which may seem a bit aloof, perfectly complements the hip vibe of the place.

The pistachio granola, honey-butter toast, roasted kimchi bread, soft-boiled eggs and other delightful items on the appealing small menu are made from organic ingredients sourced from local producers, including the tempting pastries, baked in-house, such as cardamom or cinnamon buns, croissants and cakes.

There is a handpicked selection of teas and the pour-over coffee is so outstandingly good that it does not bother us at all that there is no espresso or cappuccino.

And of course, it's wonderful to enjoy a matcha iced latte or a cold brew on one of the outdoor seats during warm summer days in the quiet northern part of the Indre By district – gladly before or after a stroll through the sunny yellow Nyboder neighborhood or the stately Frederiksstaden.
