Broens - Street Food Market on Copenhagen’s Harbor Promenade

At Broens Gadekøkken in Copenhagen, colorful street-food stalls with neon signage line a walkway; in front of the long brick warehouse, visitors sit on benches and tables in the open air.

In summer, when the days are warm and the Danish nights are bright, there’s an almost festival-like atmosphere.

The pride each vendor takes in their offerings, standing with their names for it, is evident in the food, which is exceptionally tasty and of such high quality, rarely found in street food - wether Tacos, Burger or Gyros.

Throughout the summer, there are music and other events with views over the harbor, cooled by the breeze from Copenhagen’s waterways.

In winter, when we pull our hats down tight and the wind chills our hands, we find the same spot at the eastern end of the bridge completely transformed, yet just as charming.

Instead of cold beer, there’s hot punch, fire pits and a brightly lit ice rink.

When smoke and steam rise from the food stalls, and we bundle up in thick jackets to brave the cold, it feels like we’re in a winter wonderland straight out of an Ali Mitgutsch “Wimmel-book”.

And when the Gadekøkken takes a break before spring arrives, we can hardly wait to dive back into the summer scene at Broens.
