This little restaurant, tucked away in a cosy basement in trendy Vasastan, describes itself rather well:

“Främmat is a cosy, charming restaurant where the scent of good food and a great atmosphere linger in the air. Our food and drink menus are constantly changing. We have one foot in classic French cuisine and the other in innovative, creative cooking with no rules.”

We’ve now tasted our way through the finest dishes at Främmat.

Reading the menu, some of the dishes might sound a bit fancy. But it’s exactly the opposite!

The menu at Främmat restaurant in Stockholm features a selection of modern dishes such as monkfish, pork belly, and tarte tatin, alongside an extensive list of wines and aperitifs.

Here, everything is perfectly crafted, with nothing too much or too little.

And we also get to watch the kitchen team friendly banter with one another, whilst every move is spot on.

The ingredients mostly come from the far north, and an oyster, for instance, isn’t classically French, but was harvested in the fjords of northern Norway.

The squid is caught on the west coast of Sweden.

And the mushrooms and berries come from Sweden too.

An evening at Främmat might look something like this, for example:

Accompanied by a Swedish beer or a glass of wine (which, admittedly, does actually come from France), we could easily spend almost every evening here.

Främmat combines superb cuisine with the charm of a laid-back pub that we’d pop into after work and where we’d probably always bump into a few friends.

It’s a pity we don’t live in Stockholm.

The view through the large front window of Främmat restaurant in Stockholm reveals guests dining together at a central table in the cozy and warmly lit interior.

By the way, if you’re wandering through Vasastan before dinner at Främmat (or after lunch at the weekend), you should definitely pop into Lillebrors or Bergstrands Bageri, which are perhaps the best bakeries in Stockholm.

And of course, it’s always lovely to go treasure hunting for design bargains at the Acne Archive on Torsgatan or simply to take a leisurely stroll through this pleasant neighbourhood.
