25 Hours Hotel - Summer House Vibes on Paper Island
in short. . .
Design Hotel with Scandinavian beach house charm
dreamlike location on the island of Christiansholm with beautiful views across the water
from Popl Burger to Broens or Kastberg’s ice cream to Ferm Interieur – all our favourite spots right outside the door
The name of this small hotel chain promises us an extra hour on top of any ordinary day.
We all love that wonderful feeling of having experienced so much in a single day that it feels longer than any other.
On the water-surrounded Papirøen – as the island of Christiansholm is known – we really do start the morning full of enthusiasm.
From our bed at the 25 Hours, we look out over the glistening waves in the North Harbour, the park in front of the modern Royal Opera House, to the green dome of Frederiks Church and the houses on the former naval site, where small boats bob and the first guests sit outside Hart Bageri.
Clearly the perfect place to give us that tingling feeling in our stomachs, with which we dive into our day in Copenhagen brimming with energy.
Paper Island was established in the 18th century as a dockyard and storage area.
In the 1950s, almost all the paper for Danish daily newspapers was kept here in large warehouses.
The charming name of this urban island dates back to this period.
Taking inspiration from the historic warehouses, the architectural firm Cobe designed the striking buildings with their sloping side facades, which form a series of steep gables.
One of these is home to the fantastic 25 Hours Hotel.
It is surrounded by what is probably one of the liveliest parts of Copenhagen.
Just across the small bridge are Broens Gadekøkken and Nyhavn across the water.
The Danish interior design stores, Ferm Living and Bolia, have their flagship stores right next door.
And heading north, it’s worth cycling to Lille Bakery and the Reffen site, where nature, industrial heritage and new urban planning come together in the most exciting way.
But it’s not just the location that makes the 25 Hours Hotel on the island our accommodation tip for Copenhagen.
The rooms are styled like Scandinavian holiday cottages – light blue wooden panelling, red lamps, Danish spindle-back chairs.
And in the spacious communal areas on the ground floor, the maritime theme is lovingly embellished.
Here they have cosy lounge areas, bright workspaces, a coffee bar and a super-cute souvenir shop.
There’s even a little ‘beach kiosk’ stocked with cold drinks and sweets for a goodie bag.
Holiday feeling on a city break – if that alone doesn’t add an extra hour to our day!
The reception, situated in the heart of the communal area, is staffed around the clock. Here, we find friendly assistance with any enquiry.
Otherwise, the team mostly stays in the background, and we almost immediately get that real holiday home feeling.
Of course, unlike at a beach cottage, a generous Danish breakfast is served in the hotel’s own restaurant.
But we’re soon drawn out of this pretty house, as we only have to pop over the bridge for breakfast at Hart Bageri with a view over the water.
The location on Paper Island is simply almost too good.
