The Sparrow – a small urban hotel near Humlegården

in short…

  • sweet boutique hotel in the heart of Östermalm

  • spacious rooms in a charming vintage look and a wonderful breakfast

  • our tip - take an evening stroll through the park to Hantverket, then slip slightly tipsy into your cosy hotel bed

Everyone knows the saying „A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush“.

In German, this proverbial bird is specifically a sparrow.

It means you’re better off having something little and good for sure than chasing after something bigger out of reach.

The Sparrow Hotel in Stockholm’s Östermalm not only has a plump sparrow as its logo, but is exactly that – a small, really good, charming boutique hotel.

If you're considering staying here, you really don't need to search any further.

The location couldn’t be more central, and the rooms are spacious and furnished in a cool vintage style.

Every corner of the ground floor is cosier than the last, so we love to take short breaks here during our city excursions or even linger a little longer over the delicious breakfast.

The late 19th-century building that houses The Sparrow is situated on Birger Jarlsgatan, right in the thick of things.

In less than ten minutes on foot, we can reach some of our favourite shopping destinations, such as Sibyllans, Svenskt Tenn, Acne Studios or the wonderful Saluhall.

We really like the rooms looking out onto the lively street. And in case it does get a bit too noisy at the weekend, earplugs are helpfully provided.

Those who prefer a quieter setting can choose a room facing the courtyard.

The reception at The Sparrow takes up only a modest corner of the inviting, living-room-style ground floor.

And with the warm and welcoming team, we feel more as though we’re telling friends we’ve arrived than checking into a hotel.

In the beautiful old stairwell, we then take the lift – a historic birdcage elevator (how fitting for the fat sparrow) – up to our floor.

The huge bed, fluffy bathrobes, slippers and a coffee machine would certainly tempt us not to leave the room for breakfast at all, but the breakfast buffet downstairs is simply too good to miss.

There are fresh croissants and warm madeleines, fruit and juices, bread and baguettes, eggs, cheese, pâtés – everything we could wish for.

And if it’s warm enough, we can take it all from the comfy rooms out onto the sunny terrace by the street or into the quiet courtyard.

In the evening, however, we definitely recommend tearing yourself away from Sparrow and taking a stroll through the pretty Humlegården to the fabulous Hantverket.

After the legendary Spritbordet there, you can then, feeling slightly tipsy, sink back into Sparrow’s cosy duvet.
