Ferm Living - Interior Style from Copenhagen

in short…

  • Trine Andersen's gorgeous showroom in the historic brick building on Kuglegårdsvej

  • delicate glass, oiled wood, brass, ceramics - Ferm uses only the most refined materials

  • also on our own table - the Ripple glasses and carafes

Copenhagen keeps surprising us with some of the best food we could ever wish for.

It seems to be a quiet superpower of the Danish capital to outshine others when it comes to taste.

But just as renowned is Denmark’s knack for interiors.

“Hygge,” the Danish word for a sense of cozy well-being, has long travelled across languages and borders.

Less known, perhaps, is the expression “ferm på fingrene,” meaning “skilled with one’s hands.”

That’s exactly where the name of the beautiful interiors brand Ferm Living comes from.

Hart Bageri - the unbeatable Noma Bakery

in short…

  • the bakeries of Richard Hart and René Redzepi

  • by hand and with passion, down-to-earth ingredients are turned into the absolute best here

  • the bread is good enough even for Noma - we love it as a kimchi toast straight to go

Sometimes, we wonder if there's anyone in Copenhagen's food scene who isn't connected to Noma in some way.

It's clear that the influence Noma has had globally is most prominent here in the Danish capital.

Founded in 2018 by René Redzepi himself, together with Richard Hart, Hart Bageri now boasts more than ten locations in Copenhagen.

And naturally, they bring baked goods to perfection.

Nyhavn 40 - Danish ice cream at the colorful harbor

in short…

  • eat Kastberg's delicious ice cream scoops right by the quay wall and let your legs and your soul dangle

  • our favourite - smooth soft ice cream made from real bourbon vanilla in a butter waffle cone

  • it gets no more Danish than this - sea buckthorn sorbet or liquorice ice cream

Even in Copenhagen, summer days can be sunny and hot.

While the abundant waterways invite refreshing dips, cooling down from the inside with delicious ice cream is always a good idea.

Sea buckthorn or elderflower sorbet, licorice ice cream or salted caramel, honey nougat or chocolate ice cream – all these flavors more than fulfill their cooling purpose at Nyhavn 40.

Orania Hotel - a Grand Hotel in Kreuzberg

in short…

  • casual luxury in the heart of the edgy neighbourhood

  • the most welcoming lobby with live music

  • for sleepyheads and night owls - breakfast up to 2 p.m.

The Orania is the sister hotel of the renowned Schloss Elmau, nestled at the foot of the Wetterstein Mountains.

Surprisingly, in this vibrant corner of Kreuzberg we find a touch of the serenity and coziness that the Bavarian wellness retreat is known for.

In the elegant listed building from 1912, the welcome is warm, the lobby cozy and the standard luxurious.

Stepping outside we are right in the heart of edgy, colorful Kreuzberg, where some of our favorite restaurants, like St. Bart or the Long March Canteen, are just a short stroll away.

For those who prefer to stay cocooned in the hotel’s inviting embrace, the in-house restaurant serves the most delectable Peking duck, while the bar offers fabulous cocktails, often accompanied by live music.

Sawade - Berlin’s oldest Praline-Manufactory

in short…

  • handmade chocolates since 1880

  • wrapped in pretty boxes with Berlin motifs - the perfect gift

  • our favourite shop - right in the charming Hackesche Höfe

Confiseur, master confectioner, artisan of sweets - these melodious titles describe the skilled hands behind Sawade’s exquisite treats.

Following time-honored traditions, they handcraft brittle leaves in delicate layers and produce truffles and pralines using recipes dating back to the 19th century.

Wrapped in eco-friendly foil and cellophane, these colorful confections make the perfect souvenir from Berlin.

The pastel-colored boxes, adorned with black-and-white Berlin motifs, are so charming that they’re unlikely to be discarded, even once the delicious contents are gone.

Filippa K - Sustainable Scandinavian Fashion

Flowing dresses, airy white blouses, casual blazers, light fabric trousers—this is exactly how we envision Scandinavian fashion.

And this is precisely what you'll find at Filippa K.

In the bright flagship store on Biblioteksgatan in Stockholm, we always enjoy adding a few new basics to our wardrobe.

Timeless without being dull, elegant without being restrictive, high-quality and durable, Filippa K's clothes are pieces we never quickly discard.

And that, in itself, is the first step toward sustainability, isn’t it?

The Stue Berlin - Five Stars plus a Zoo

in short…

  • more than just a luxury hotel – we feel like in a homey living room

  • art in the lobby and the zoo on the doorstep

  • coffee in bed with a view of capybaras

We usually try to steer quite clear of recommending five-star hotels.

Suggesting the most luxurious place in town, only to have it exceed most budgets, feels a bit too easy.

But with the Stue, we simply can’t resist.

The Berlin Zoo had already celebrated nearly a century of existence when, in the late 1930s, the Royal Danish Embassy was constructed on the edge of its northeastern corner.

Over seventy years later, this elegant building on Drakestraße became home to one of Berlin’s most distinctive hotels.

„Stue“ is the Danish word for living room and it’s a fitting description.

Brilliant Apartments - at Home in Berlin

in short….

  • a home away in Prenzlauer Berg - with hotel service on demand

  • right on Oderberger Strasse, yet blissfully quiet in a courtyard building

  • perfect neighbours - breakfast at Café Krone and dinner at Otto

Brilliant Apartments - the name may sound plain, but the apartments on the charming Oderberger Straße are anything but.

Lovingly designed, familiar and full of character, they exude a sense of home away from home.

Nestled in Prenzlauer Berg, these fourteen unique apartments are spread across the front and rear building, in true Berlin fashion.

Weekly cleaning services and an on-site breakfast café provide just the right amount of convenience, so that we don’t miss the advantages of a hotel.

There are even facilities for doing laundry at home or dropping it off at the dry cleaner around the corner.

Each apartment comes equipped with a fully functional kitchen for cooking our own meals. Though with so many of our favorite Berlin restaurants just a short walk away, staying in might not be all that tempting.

Wilmina Hotel - a Retreat in Charlottenburg

in short…

  • wonderful architectural metamorphosis - from women's prison to green oasis

  • perhaps the most enchanting city hotel we know

  • dreamlike highlight - the rooftop pool seems to flow straight into the sky

Little birds flit into the ivy draping the facade.

Their cheerful chirping mingling with the distant hum of the city beyond. They dart out again, diving into a sea of green where waves of white blossoms rise and fall beneath our window.

Red brick walls, weathered by decades of history, frame a series of serene courtyards and lush gardens.

Sunlight dances playfully through delicate ash leaves, casting fleeting patterns of light and shadow.

In Wilmina the bustling metropolis around us falls into oblivion.

Architects Almut and Armand Grüntuch-Ernst have masterfully transformed a former women’s prison from 1896 into the city’s most enchanting oasis.

The hotel feels like a wellness escape, yet it sits at the heart of Berlin - a hidden world within the city and our favorite secret haven.

Caffellini - sweet Espresso Bar in Gamla Stan

in short:

  • for a quick breather in Gamla Stan

  • when we really need a strong espresso

  • since „Hey!", here, could easily be „Ciao!"

Fika, the Swedish coffee break, is deeply woven into daily life here and for us, it’s one of the most beloved rituals of Nordic culture.

Throughout Scandinavia, good filter coffee is a given. The beans tend to be lightly roasted up here, which makes for a smooth, almost fruity brew.

So even though the quick espresso stop at Caffelini feels far more Italian than Swedish, it’s just as welcome - especially on a lively afternoon in Stockholm’s Old Town.
